Promoting the appeal of Japanese cuisine at the local Japanese restaurants in Taiwan and attracting inbound visitors to Tokyo

Gurunavi, Inc.(head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Seiichiro Kubo, President and Representative Director, hereinafter, Gurunavi) ,as part of the joint promotion business between private companies and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which has the aim of attracting visitors to Tokyo, will implement “JAPANESE RESTAURANT WEEK – TOKYO (JRW)” in Taiwan and utilize JRW promotional activities to bolster visits to Tokyo. Utilizing the network of restaurants that Gurunavi has in Taiwan, it aims to create fans of Tokyo by providing the charm of a rich variety of Japanese foods, which is considered a tourism resource of Tokyo, where tradition and innovation come together.

JRW will be held in Taiwan for three weeks from November 29th to December 19th, to communicate to customers show the food culture and attraction of the surrounding tourist spots in Tokyo, and will be publicized through Gurunavi’s own media, such as Japan Trend Ranking. Also, in order to tie this effort with encouraging more people to visit Tokyo, Gurunavi will collaborate with LION TRAVEL SERVICE CO., LTD (LION TRAVEL), the largest travel company in Taiwan through PR online and offline to show the charm of Tokyo to consumers in Taiwan who have a high willingness to travel overseas.


JAPANESE RESTAURANT WEEK started off in Singapore in 2013, followed by Hong Kong, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Bangkok with the concept of “Let’s experience the genuine Japanese cuisine of washoku in Japan”. It is an event to bring about the feeling of “Japan, one visit is never enough” through actual experiences of the food culture of Japan.
This time, we will organize the promotion from November 29th at roughly 60 stores that are interested in Tokyo, from among the restaurants that are networked in Taiwan with our base. In addition to announcements such as PR posters, lucky draw raffles will be offered for travel vouchers that can be used for traveling to Tokyo as well as charming merchandise from Tokyo as prizes. Also, 11 high quality Japanese restaurants will have a ‘Tokyo menu fair’ that provides menus such as ‘dashi-soup stock’ to attract attention to the Tokyo metropolitan area.

(2) Provide information using [Japan Trend Ranking]

Japan Trend Ranking, a Japanese food culture and travel information website, will guide visitors to the JRW special website that promotes JRW participating restaurants. Also, the booklet version of Japan Trend Ranking which can be found at JRW participating restaurants, features Tokyo’s recommended restaurants to attract tourists to visit Tokyo.

(3) PR promotion at [LION TRAVEL]

Event promotion will be both online and offline, including announcements on the LION TRAVEL website, SNS, and at participating restaurants. Also from ‘LIVE JAPAN PERFECT GUIDE TOKYO’, a one-stop visitor information website provided by Gurunavi for overseas guests, 20 articles on food and culture in Tokyo will be selected and introduced on the LION TRAVEL website.
Furthermore, there will be a picture posting campaign on Facebook to win meal vouchers that can be used at restaurants in which the TOKYO menu fair is held.
