Gurunavi now connected with TripAdvisor

to evolve the way restaurants are selected and booked in Japan
for overseas visitors

TripAdvisor users have access to Gurunavi's 80,000 restaurants in Japan,
making it more convenient for overseas visitors to select and book restaurants

Tokyo, June 23, 2016 - Gurunavi Inc. (Gurunavi; Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Seiichiro Kubo, president and representative director), started cutting edge business in the early days of the Internet and celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, well known for Japan's leading restaurant search site providing the latest information of expansive numbers of member restaurants, and TripAdvisor® (Newton, Massachusetts; TripAdvisor Japan, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), the world's largest travel website, began offering mutually linked services at their Japanese and English websites. The linked services will enable both partners to make the most of their own strengths. By providing even more convenient services to more travelers around the world, from gathering information to restaurant booking, they will promote restaurant visits by overseas visitors. And restaurants will have access to greater assistance in welcoming and serving overseas guests through promotional initiatives.

Gurunavi provides TripAdvisor about 500,000 restaurant information which includes over 80,000 restaurants displayed in multi languages. It now is designed that users can find access to Gurunavi's restaurant pages through TripAdvisor's website which has over 3million users worldwide so that Gurunavi can approach more users both Japanese and overseas visitors, and actively provide the most up-to-date information provided by restaurants such as detailed menu, ingredient, seating, pricing and more. Users can even book restaurants through the website or concierge service. ( As of June, 80,000 links are only available on Japanese / English PC and mobile site. TripAdvisor mobile app and other language services (Traditional Chiniese, Simplified Chinese and Korean) are planned to be introduced later on.)

TripAdvisor's reviews will be displayed at the Gurunavi restaurant page beginning on July 4. According to a Gurunavi survey of overseas consumers, 85% of respondents use online word-of-mouth information in seeking out restaurants at overseas travel destinations. The results indicated the crucial role of word-of-mouth information. By displaying on its restaurant page the posts of travelers to destinations all over the world including Japan, Gurunavi will solidify its position as a restaurant information site while making it smooth and easy for tourists to select restaurants during travel.

Seiichiro Kubo, president and representative director of Gurunavi said " We are pleased to announce that we have launched this cooperated service with TripAdvisor, the world's largest popular travel website. Through this partnership we will be able to introduce many attractive restaurants in Japan that are still undiscovered to inbound travelers increasing each year. This service will be a great opportunity for world travelers to experience Japanese food which is one of the most excellent food in the world. I am very proud to contribute to further development of and leap Japan's food culture."

Gurunavi strengthens the connection with world travelers and make the atmosphere in Japan's restaurant industry more welcoming to them. To facilitate stress-free encounters for both overseas visitors and restaurant staff, a "Hospitality Tool" will be provided that includes caution items and conversation guides. And seminars on how to handle inbound tourism including the use of TripAdvisor are also scheduled.

Partnership commemorative page

A special website page will be added by 19th August through to commemorate the partnership. Links to the page celebrating the new partnership will be included at the TripAdvisor Japan top page and the Gurunavi foreign-language (English) top page. By directing traffic to specified restaurant pages, the commemorative page will make it easier to find appealing restaurants during the summer travel season.

Partnership commemorative sticker

Commemorative stickers bearing the TripAdvisor and Gurunavi logos will be distributed to member restaurants, announcing that they provide multilingual menus. Displaying the stickers prominently with the TripAdvisor logo, widely recognized among foreign visitors, will make overseas visitors feel comfortable entering for the first time, thus helping to generate tourist business.

Hospitality tool

To facilitate stress-free encounters for both overseas visitors and restaurant staff, the Hospitality Tool will include printer-friendly caution items and conversation guides.
